The Mechanism of Nrf2/ARE Signaling Pathway in Periodontitis with Atherosclerosis

Background Periodontitis is a high prevalence disease, affecting up to 80% of the world's population. Recently studies have shown connection between periodontal disease and cardiovascular as oxidative stress plays an important role in chronic inflammatory diseases such disease. Nuclear factor erythroid 2 - related (Nrf2) core transcriptional regulator endogenous antioxidant system cellular defense antioxidant, anti-inflammatory immune response. Objective To explore Nrf2/antioxidant responsive element (ARE) signaling pathway periodontitis or complicated with atherosclerosis. Method With "Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related (Nrf2), Periodontitis, Atherosclerosis, Oxidative Stress" search terms, authors searched articles published during 2016-2021 PubMed, CNKI, Science Direct other databases by computer, made following review through screening, induction summary. Result & Conclusion Nrf2/ARE one mechanisms connecting Nrf2 can slow down occurrence development promoting osteoblast differentiation, inhibiting osteoclast activation, regulating mesenchymal stem cell proliferation, differentiation apoptosis. However, inhibition may increase risk atherosclerosis destroying integrity vascular endothelium, increasing lipid accumulation inflammation.
